Job & Career Counseling FAQs

What is job & career counseling?

Career counseling is when you work with someone to help figure out next steps in your career. People who can benefit from career counseling include: college students who don’t know what to study, people after they graduate, and people in the middle of their lives who want a different job. Many people can use career counseling because it is hard to choose a job the first time or even the fifth time. If you need help making choices about your job, talk to a career counselor!

What should I expect from a job & career counseling?

At our first meeting we will get to know you better by getting a background and an understanding of your goals. This information helps us develop a plan of action that we review together. Career counseling involves gathering information about yourself (through formal and informal career assessment) and identifying several career options to research. Through discussion and support, you reach the point where you have the confidence to decide what direction to take. From there, we help you select a college major or begin the job search process.

How often will I need to meet with a career counselor?

This depends on what your goal is for career counseling and where you are in the process. An average number of sessions is around 6-12 sessions.
