Once

The concept of OHIO is an efficiency life hack that was originally proposed to support individuals with ADHD struggling with organization, task initiation, and completion. In reality, this concept can and should be considered for all of us!

What does OHIO mean? When quick, easy, mundane tasks come up, handle it one time rather than adding them to your plate. This idea asks you to focus on the task, only tackle that task quickly, handle it, move on, repeat. By practicing this skill we can respond to a task immediately in order to efficiently move it off our mind and plate. By moving quick tasks off our plate, we can free up our mental energy for those things in life that require more energy and time that are filling up our plate.

Now take this life hack with a grain of salt, not all tasks can we push off our plate quickly. There are times when we need to let our brains marinate on something and go back to it multiple times. Those items may stay on our plate for a bit. That is ok!

The take home message, think about the concept of OHIO and see if you can be self-aware throughout your day to try it out. The more you consider and practice, the more routine you will be able to utilize OHIO and keep control of your plate.
